Watching a couple of programs, mostly T.V. serials has become an unavoidable habit. At times, I used to wonder why I should waste my time on these serials but when I think about these serials or certain interesting programs what comes to my mind is the fact that these programs in hundreds of channels are encouraging the youngsters to participate in any of these programs and earn enough money for their livelihood or to enter the mega world of movies. Another important fact is that most of the serials are between 6 pm and 10 pm and even the slum dwellers can spend their time usefully!

It is festivals, festivals all the way as far as India is concerned, though politics makes its presence felt every now and then. But, the people, by large, look forward to such festivals which are, invariably, celebrated in temples.
Of all such festivals, the one which enlightens the people, especially the children, is the 9 day festival called Navaratri (9 Nights) which worships goddess Saraswathy who is the embodiment of knowledge and inspiration to children and adults alike. The songs connected to such festivals are given top priority. One is reminded of the proverbs, “Knowledge is power” and “reading maketh a perfect man”
As far as Indian students in certain states are concerned, they are facing some problems, no necessarily financial. When they have to compete with extremely brilliant students, it is not the financial status that push them down but the capacity of the extremely brilliant ones to face any challenge that can arise from the subject chosen by them. The one good quality they develop right from their school days is “reading habit”. Which make them intellectually ready for any subject; be it medical, engineering, literature or even history and politics!
As far as the ones who are unable to perform will are concerned, they seek the support of the politicians or student union instead of seeking the support of the brilliant students referred to above who are capable of making them enlightened.
“The ambition of almost all senior students and the desire of their parents as well, is to become District Collectors. But, if all students succeed, there won’t be any candidate for Peons’ Posts!”
The audience and other participants burst into laughter.
Almost every TV channel has set apart programs dedicated to viewers on every Sunday. Such programs get wide support from viewers mainly because the subjects are supposed to be very useful and funny.
Whatever it may be, people get an opportunity to express their views or to spend an hour or two every Sunday on such thought-provoking programs which enable the students to develop originality.
Our weekend trip to one of our favorite spots gathered momentum when we got into a local train. As soon as we settled down, I got an idea about the wonders of the places we were to visit. The first thing was the vast seashore and the rest you can imagine!
My mind, of course, was making the Wow! Wow! sound on seeing the waves, trees and those white birds.
On reaching the relevant station station, we took a taxi and reached the park in ten minutes or so. And, when it was time for us to return, we were reluctant to say “Bye, bye” to the sea and birds. Anyway, the coffee house nearby seemed to say, “Come on guys, we will make your visit memorable!”
As we were going back, my mind was not happy about the machine-like world everywhere. Youngsters can manage the computer which expects you to do everything at its whims and fancies. Anyway, what comes back to my mind off and on is the wonders of nature.
If self praising was a taboo, we human beings would have kept mum about all those wonderful discoveries and waited till someone overheard and passed on the message to every Tom, Dick and Harry!
Gone are such days; Now, we have innumerable universities which encourage bright students and professors to spend their precious time on discoveries ranging from science and technology to almost all subjects which need intelligent research works. The whole world has to support such worthy programs and make the whole world happy and prosperous.
Assuring that the Modi government will find a permanent solution to the unrest in Kashmir, the union Home Minister introduced a new slogan, “Kashmir is ours, Kashmiris are ours and Kashmiriyat is also ours”
To be a bit more pragmatic, one would suggest that the government should arrange a length journey by train from Kashmir to Kanyakumari for students so as to enable them to see India that is Bharath; So that the students will automatically fall in love with our beloved nation. Not just once, but frequently, not only for Kashmirs but to the students from other parts as well. The result will be fantastic! Soon, we may hear “Our India” Slogan from our students and youngsters!
